White Cross, Inc., commonly referred to as White Cross Children’s Home, was established in 1936 in response to the tuberculosis epidemic that disproportionately impacted marginalized communities. A dedicated Catholic group of women, led by Mrs. Victoria Lopez de Araneta, founded the corporation known as White Cross Inc. This Philippine orphanage has since played a vital role in caring for children in need.
On April 19, 1938, the management of this White Cross orphanage was entrusted to the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, following the request of Mrs. Mercedes Zobel de McMicking, one of the founders.
After several decades, on April 28, 2004, the Daughters of Charity returned the management to the Board of Trustees, led by Mrs. Consuelo Rufino-Lopez, and the institution began to be managed by Lay Coordinators.
Today, White Cross Inc., located in Antipolo, is licensed and accredited by the Department of Social Welfare and Development, achieving Level 2 accreditation as a child caring agency. It provides temporary care for children aged 0-6 years who require immediate shelter and facilitates the permanent placement of abandoned and surrendered children through adoption, making it a significant White Cross orphanage in the San Juan area.
